Sophie Wood is a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Evaluation Capacity Network (ECN), part of the Community-University Partnership (CUP) at the University of Alberta. She joined CUP in April 2025 after relocating from the United Kingdom to Edmonton.
Sophie is a mixed methods researcher with a strong background in evaluation, administrative data linkage, co-development of evaluation resources and instruments, and advanced quantitative analysis. Her work spans a wide range of social policy areas, including children’s social care, mental health services, secure children’s homes, family group conferencing, and the impact of parental alcohol use.
She is a strong advocate for participatory and co-created research and evaluation approaches. Throughout her career, Sophie has collaborated with government departments such as the Welsh Government, policy think tanks, third-sector organizations including Family Rights Group, statutory services like children’s social care, and people with lived experience. Her work focuses on building evidence-informed systems that centre the voices of families and communities.
